You’re going to be put in a lot of situations throughout your life where you’ll be expected to dance. Being the guy who always stands to the side and awkwardly holds back as his friends pull him to the floor is not sexy. While it’s terrifying, dancing can get you all sorts of places you’d never expect to be…like with a woman. With all phobias, it’s going to take some effort to get over. This one is no different.
Why Are You Afraid to Dance?
Why are you afraid to dance? Is it the lack of control you have over your body? Do you think everyone’s watching you? Are you afraid to fall over and make an idiot of yourself? The truth of the matter is that no one likes to feel dumb. Dancing is something that not everyone does well and it’s so obvious if you’re terrible at it. But the truth is there are ways to fix that. You don’t have to take a class or anything like that. You can honestly just look like you’re better than you are.
Taking the First Steps
Confidence is the best seller that there is, that’s why used car salesman do so well. When you’re on the dance floor close your eyes until you just don’t care anymore. You might feel silly doing it, but honestly the “I can’t see you so you can’t see me” rule sort of applies here. After you’ve felt the music and started your little bob, open your eyes. With your head up and your back straight, you’ll look like you don’t give two damns about what other people think. Truthfully, no one will really be watching you anyway, so that lends itself well to pretending not to care.
When you are in some dark club or at a wedding where everyone is getting down, there will be little to no eyes that are actually on you. It just feels that way. Once you’ve conquered your fear of dancing once, you should have an easier time the next go round as well. Just remember to be confident and fake it until you make it.
